Getting There

Finfoot Lake Reserve, Pilanesberg

The beauty of Finfoot is its proximity to Gauteng. There is no need to travel for hours on end to escape The Big Smoke. With Finfoot Lake Reserve a mere 90 minute drive from Johannesburg, your ideal bolt-hole is waiting to be discovered. Getting there is easy. Follow the N4 west towards Rustenburg. Take the Sun City off-ramp and turn right towards Sun City. Travel for 47km crossing over three 4-way stops (2.7km, 23.5km and 15.7km respectively). After the third 4-way stop travel for 7.8km and turn right at the brown Finfoot sign (Finfoot Lake Reserve 500m). Travel for 3km and turn right (Brown road sign Finfoot Lake Reserve). Travel for a further 14km on the gravel road (white road signs Finfoot Lake Reserve 14km and then Finfoot Lake Reserve 6km). Turn right and arrive at gate (White sign Finfoot Lake Reserve). Call Reception on 060 605 5878 to open the gate and then follow the Finfoot signs on the dirt road until you reach the lodge (7.7km). The GPS co-ordinates of the destination are: 25⁰ 19’ 34.3” S : 27⁰ 26 ‘29.8” E

The Greater Vaalkop Dam Nature Reserve

Finfoot Lake Reserve is part of an expanding conservation area known as The Greater Vaalkop Dam Nature Reserve which falls within the Crocodile River basin of the Pilanesberg region in the North West Province of South Africa. North West Province is home to numerous world-renowned game reserves such as Madikwe Game Reserve and the Pilanesberg National Park as well as many other nature conservation areas. In this area summers are mild to hot whereas winter nights can be cold.

Finfoot Lake Reserve is strategically situated along the central shoreline of Vaalkop Dam which is within the 3264ha Vaalkop Nature Reserve. Vaalkop Dam lies about 23km ESE from the outer perimeter of the ancient Pilanesberg crater formation and is located at the confluence of the Elands River and the Hex River which drain a combined catchment area of around 6115 sq.km.



Vaalkop Dam is not small. The dam about 15 km in length and has a surface area of 1110 ha. This large water body is a renowned angling destination with species such as yellowfish, carp and barbell being abundant. Boating activity on the dam is restricted to specific areas.
