Black Rhino Game Reserve

Experience Africa’s “Super 7” (the famous Big 5 plus wild dog and cheetah) while going wild in style at the privately owned Kgorogoro and Thaba Bush Lodges which are situated in the exclusive Black Rhino Game Reserve. Black Rhino itself is within the 55 000ha malaria free Pilanesberg National Park. This private game reserve is only accessible to guests staying at Black Rhino. Both Kgorogoro and Thaba Bush Lodges are the perfect bases from which to get close up and personal with Africa’s most exciting wildlife.

Black Rhino Game Reserve is less than 30 minutes by car to Sun City which is Africa’s biggest and best known fun and entertainment complex. This means that while staying at Black Rhino Game Reserve you can conveniently experience the best that the African bush and Sun City have to offer. Black Rhino Game Reserve is less than a 2.5 hour drive from Johannesburg and OR Tambo International Airport. Isn’t it time that you booked your next getaway at either of these two luxurious lodges?

Lodges

Kgorogoro & Thaba Bush Lodges

Kgorogoro and Thaba Bush Lodges are each set out on a hectare of pristine bushveld surrounded by a low electric game fence in the heart of Black Rhino’s Big 5 territory. The lodges are architecturally alike and appointed with similar upmarket interior furnishings and finishes. They consist of a huge central open plan living area linked by walkways to 5 spacious bedrooms (in separate chalets), a swimming pool, boma with firepit and built-in braai, carports and an on-site ranger’s residence. The lodges fully serviced, air-conditioned and comprehensively equipped for a relaxing self-catering Big 5 bush experience. Each Lodge sleeps a maximum of ten occupants and, if needed, baby sitters can be arranged. In Black Rhino Game Reserve private vehicles may only be used for commuting from the main gate to the lodges and back. Thereafter all game drives are conducted in Open Safari Vehicles.

A FGASA qualified game ranger lives on-site to oversee the day to day running of the lodge and is available for taking occupants on game drives in the lodge’s own open safari vehicle. Black Rhino has traversing rights over an unprecedented 55 000ha – in other words over all open roads in the Pilanesberg National Park.

Three of the bedrooms are in separate stand-alone chalets tucked away in the indigenous bush. The fourth and fifth bedrooms are situated together in a chalet designated as “the family suite” which comprises 2 en-suite bedrooms with a lounge area linking them.

All bedrooms are very spacious, well appointed (bar fridges and coffee stations), air-conditioned and have full en-suite bathrooms with double showers. Walkways connect the bedroom suites to the main living area which has an open plan design.

At one end of the living area is a casual bar with large drinks fridges. The bar opens onto a large undercover deck with a gas braai. Adjoining the bar is a T.V. (DSTV) lounge with a fire place that also opens into the dining room area.

The dining room adjoins an open plan kitchen which has a separate screened-off scullery and pantry area. A formal/reading lounge with adjoining small library also adjoins the open plan kitchen.

A wooden walkway leads from the living area lawn to a private swimming pool and boma with central fire pit and built-in braai. Firewood is available at the lodge.

Holiday Experience

Black Rhino Game Reserve

Game viewing at Black Rhino Game Reserve is done from Open Safari Vehicles (OSV’s) driven by FGASA qualified game rangers. No general public access is allowed into Black Rhino Game Reserve. The route from Black Rhino into the National Park passes through the restricted access wilderness area. It is a very exclusive arrangement and one that contributes massively to the enormous appeal of the Black Rhino Game Reserve wildlife experience.

During your stay at Black Rhino Game Reserve you may want to spend a day of fun at Sun City. Here your entertainment options are literally limitless. You can take in a show; have fun at the Valley of the Waves; get lost in the Southern Hemisphere’s largest permanent maze; ride the world’s fastest zip slide; take your chances in the casino; play golf on either the Gary Player or Lost City Golf courses where the water hazard at the 13th Hole has 38 live Nile Crocodiles - both are Gary Player designed 18 hole par 72 championship courses.

Black Rhino Game Reserve offers an unmatched combination of a world class game reserve in close proximity to a world class entertainment complex. Holiday experiences don’t get much better than this.
