2008 Game sightings

January 2008
Good sightings of general game continued to excite guests during January. However the frequency of sightings dropped slightly for elephant, buffalo and rhino and probably reflected the increased availability of water and grazing away from the river during the summer period.

February 2008
The big cats were back. The viewing highlight for February was the reported sighting of lions on the 13th and 20th. Hyaena were seen the usual 4 or 5 times during the month. Elephant and buffalo were back on the riverfront every second or third day which seems to blow the theory that increased water and graze away from the river might have explained the decrease in sightings during January right out of the water so to speak. Rhino, which tend to come to the river during the early evening, were seen every week throughout the month. Bushbuck, baboons, vervets, zebra, wildebeest and warthogs were all reported along the floodplain a couple of times during February whilst impala, waterbuck, hippos and crocodiles continued to be seen every day.

March 2008
As for February, lions were reported along the riverfront twice (9th and 10th) in March and hyaena were seen on the 4th, 15th, 22nd and 27th. Buffalo were seen every day throughout the month. Elephant sightings decreased slightly but they were also on the riverfront during each week of the month. Rhino were recorded on 7 separate occasions throughout March. Other game that visited the floodplain during March included giraffe, warthog, bushbuck, zebra, impala, waterbuck, baboons and vervet monkeys. Hippos and crocs were seen every day.
