Madikwe Game Reserve is best known for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game re-introduction program which took place from 1991 to 1997. The reserve is now home to healthy populations of lion, wild dog, leopard, cheetah, brown and spotted hyena, black and white rhino, hippo, buffalo, elephant and a variety of plains game including sable, gemsbok, eland, zebra, wildebeest, springbok, impala, giraffe and more.
